In Summer 2017, Zotero 5.0 was released. This new version of Zotero represents "the biggest upgrade in Zotero's history." Previous versions of Zotero were strongly linked to the Firefox browser; this new version works well with multiple browsers.
To use Zotero, you will need to:
Zotero 5.0 is a downloadable installation that runs in its own window rather than as part of the web browser. It is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. The download includes plugins for Word and LibreOffice.
After installing Zotero Standalone, you can install connectors for Chrome, Safari, or Firefox that allow you to save citations directly to Standalone and your online library.
You can use Zotero on the browser of your mobile device by installing a "Bookmarklet," a special link that saves items directly to your Zotero account on the web.
You must have a Zotero account, and your device must be online, to use Zotero.
