Teaching Support for Online Instruction

eTextbooks and eBook Availability

We are aware that our students may no longer have access to their textbooks due to the impact of COVID-19.   There are several ways that the University Libraries can help.

  • Search the library collection of eBooks to add to your course or syllabi.  Many eBooks have limits on the number of students that can access the book simultaneously.  Submit a Request for the Libraries to increase the number of seats to meet your course needs.
  • If the Libraries does not currently provide access to the course materials that you need, Submit a Request for Online Textbook or Course Readings.  Please only request the materials you need to complete the semester.

Course Reserves

Course Reserves provide online access to the Libraries' material -- linking to Libraries' subscription resources, finding e-books where available, and much more.

Free Resources from Publishers

Many publishers and vendors are providing limited time free access or trials to faculty and students affected by COVID-19.   These are in addition to the content that the University Libraries already licenses for the TAMU community.   As we hear of these offers, we will post them.

Adding Library Links to eCampus or Google Classroom

You can put together readings, course packs, or post from our streaming media collection by embedding links into your course. Embedding links correctly is important for remote access, accessibility, and honoring the Libraries' licensing agreements.

Adding the EZProxy URL (easy as 1-2-3!)

1.  Copy the URL from the library database

2.  Prefix the URL with http://proxy.library.tamu.edu/login?url=[your URL goes here] (be sure to remove the brackets [ ] )

3.  Add the link to eCampus

Tips for Success

  • The library must license the resource in order to provide access.  If the resource you want is not available through the University Libraries, please contact your librarian.
  • The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a great way to add a URL.  DOI URLs can be created by adding the DOI number to the EZProxy prefix.  Example:  http://proxy.library.tamu.edu/login?url=http://dx.doi.org
  • The Libraries' Quick Search can create the EZProxy URL for you.
    • Find your resource using the Quick Search box on the on the University Libraries homepage.
    • Hover over the paper with the magnifying glass icon
    • Select detailed record.
    • Click "Permalink" to copy the link.
    • Embed the link in eCampus

Library Guides for Your Course

  • The Libraries creates mini-websites with curated resources, databases, and links for classes and special research topics.
  • Consider embedding one of our Research Guides into your class.

Resources to Share Course Materials

You can upload instructional materials to the Libraries' institutional repository (OakTrust) to share easily with students.

OERs

Consider using Open Education Resources (OERs) for your coursework.
