Searching Strategies
When you have a topic
1) Break it into 2 or 3 main concepts
2) Find synonyms for each concept, and then use the OR connector to string them together to make a search string.
3) Use the AND connector to combine all the search strings and then run a search.
For Example - Global migration caused by environmental issues and their impact on young refugees
STEP 1 - global migration, environment, young people
STEP 2 - Global migration (global migration OR international migration OR migration OR Refugees...)
Environment (environment OR environmental OR Climate OR global warming...)
Young people (child OR children OR youth...)
STEP 3 - Combine them into one search. See the picture below.
OPTIONAL - Limit results to Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Sources / Full Text. Use the Select a Field drop-down menu to select AB Abstract or TI Title field to force certain search terms to appear in the Abstract or the Title field of studies retrieved.
