Academic Integrity

Aggie Code of Honor

"An Aggie does not lie, cheat or steal, or tolerate those who do."

Part of honoring the Aggie core value of Integrity is giving credit to when borrowing the ideas and thoughts of others.  In academic life, this is called citing your source.

Citing sources

  • builds credibility in your work by showing you are not alone in your opinions;
  • shows that you have thought about and investigated your ideas;
  • ties your work to the larger scholarly discourse on the topic;
  • gives your reader the information he or she needs to verify your source or to find more information on the subject; and
  • allows you to give credit where credit is due.

Not citing your sources is academically dishonest and may lead to charges of plagiarism.
