Guidance for Clinical Resources

The AMA Manual of Style may not provide explicit guidance for every type of resource you encounter. To address these gaps, we’ve created examples based on AMA guidelines to help you correctly cite these unique sources. Explore our list of curated examples below. Most of the examples are based on adaptations of the formats for book chapters, online databases, and websites (see AMA Style, 11th edition).

Clinical Practice Guidelines

Clinical practice guidelines are typically published in journals sponsored by a medical society or organization. Therefore, clinical practice guidelines should be cited as you would a journal article.
