Example: Looking for Public Opinion about Abortion

Roper Center for Public Opinion Research
Provided by the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at Cornell University, Roper iPoll is the largest collection of public opinion poll data with results from 1935 to the present. Roper iPoll contains nearly 800,000 questions and over 23,000 datasets from both U.S. and international polling firms. Surveys cover any number of topics including, social issues, politics, pop culture, international affairs, science, the environment, and much more. When available, results charts, demographic crosstabs and full datasets are provided for immediate download.

Enter abortion in the search box and then select it as a topic. You could narrow it by entering another keyword such as illegal in the Narrow Search box on the left, After that use the Filters provided on the left panel to select data types or other limiters.

ICPSR
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) supplies data files for use with statistical software, such as SAS, SPSS, and Stata. Established in 1962, ICPSR is the world's largest archive of digital social science data. Create an account using your TAMU email to access data and download data available only to ICPSR members.

  • TIPS: Combining two subject terms: Public Opinion and Abortion . Find Data > under Data Format, select a format> under Subject, select Public Opinion > from View All, select Abortion > from the results, select a study title, e.g. ABC News Poll, July 2000  (ICPSR 3058) > Download the data or browser/download Variables, Data-related Publications, or Export Metadata.
  • TIPS: Keyword Search: Public Opinion and Abortion. Search the key words > and then select the Variables to download or use the Filters on the left  > select  Dataset.
