Compare Variables

  • Example - How to compare TAMU & UT for the completion data by their Hispanic female students enrolled in the Sociology master program?

    ►Data-Planet Statistical DataSets
provides access to 1.5 billion data points from licensed and public domain datasets within an easy-to-use interface. Scan the contents of over 530 datasets, select subjects and variables of interest, and view your data in side-by-side tables and charts. Access to extensive and current data in 20-, 30-, even 100-year time series.

TIPS: Follow the screen instructions to select Education > Completion > State > Institution> Degree> Race > subject field or other variables. You could also compare state by state, institution by institution or other comparable variables for any categories like dropout rates, spending, faculty salaries and more.

  • Example - Comparing the responses of two surveys about WELFARE SPENDING.

    ICPSR
The Social Science Variables Database (SSVD) enables ICPSR users to examine and compare variables and questions across studies or series. The SSVD currently includes over 5 million variables, representing about 76% of ICPSR's holdings that have quantitative data described in statistical syntax. https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/web/pages/ICPSR/ssvd/

TIPS: Go to Find Data, use the drop down arrow to select Search/ Compare Data > Variable > search for a topic such as Welfare Spending > select the check boxes of those you want to compare.

    .
  • Example - Comparing the publications within PubMed by University of Oxford and University of Cambridge

    Dimensions Analytics
A "linked research knowledge system" (database) bringing multiple content types into a single place for improved global discovery and analysis.

Tips: This is an excellent source to compare publications, research impacts by institution / researcher/ publisher/ funding agency and more.

    Dimensions > Publication List > PubMed > Compare >

  • Google Public Data Explorer

"Google Public Data Explorer provides public data and forecasts from a range of international organizations and academic institutions including the World Bank, OECD, Eurostat and the University of Denver. These can be displayed as line graphs, bar graphs, cross sectional plots or on maps" <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Public_Data_Explorer>

Example - Comparing Argentina and Brazil by fertility rates.

Google Public Data Directory > Fertility Rate > Compare by > Select Argentina and Brazil > see an animated bubble graph showing fertility rates and life expectancy rates changed over time.
