Google Trends

► Google Trends - what people are searching...

  • Google Trends show "trending searches around the world. You can click on a story to get more context, like the most relevant articles or trending queries." <https://support.google.com/trends/answer/6248105?hl=en&ref_topic=6248052>

Tips: You can search with Daily search trends, Real-time search trends or Year in Search Data. Google Trends also allows you to compare search results among different geographic locations or other variables.

         Examples
Daily Search Trends: Friday, November 4, 2022 Twitter layoffs  | 50K searches
Real-Time Search Trends: Layoff. Singapore.Twitter.Employee | Business Time 3 hours ago
Year in Search Data: Resulted line graphs showing Twitter as a term searched in the U.S. and globally.

Example - Republican Party vs Democratic Party: search trending during the midterm election 2022

  • TIPS:  (1) This was the search trending data captured during the Midterm Election 2022 in United States. See Google Trends' disclaimer: "Trends data is an indication of curiosity in the subject or candidate. It should not be considered an indication of voter intent." (2) If you compare two or more items, make sure you choose them as as either Search Terms or Topics. If you see a note like "This comparison contains both Search terms and Topics, which are measured differently" that means they cannot be compared. Then you have to make changes to put them all in the same category. See the image below where "Search terms" are highlighted.

As the graph shows: (1) More people searched for Republican Party during that period and (2) The trend lines indicated that the searches interest suddenly spiked from November 8th, 2:00am to 6:00am. The popularity of the searches reached 100% for Republican Party at November 9th at 5:00am. The interests dropped back to the average range at November 10th at 12pm.  TIPS: You can right click to view a larger version of the image below:

Example -- Texas A&M Aggies Football Search Trending during the Past 12 Months

  • Tips: Enter the search term to see the graphs about search interest trending. Also look at the Queries table to see the related terms like football schedule, scores, other states' interest and so on. If you drop the word Aggies, the results may look somewhat differently. Remember the trending results are search term based. More TIPS, you could also choose other categories to find out, for example, the interests for Aggies football IMAGES or game recordings in YouTube.
